You Can Know That All Your Sins Are Forgiven Today!
Have you ever asked, "How can I
know my sins are forgiven?" The Bible teaches that you can know that
your sins are forgiven! Consider what the Apostle John wrote in his
first epistle.
"7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the
Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus
His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin,
we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we
confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say
that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us."
(1 John 1:7-10 NASB)
Within these Scriptures I want to address 6 points.
-
In 1 John 1:7 it
speaks about "the blood" of Jesus. Jesus Christ came into this
world to give His life for anyone who would reach out and receive Him. (John
3:16) The blood of Jesus Christ brought
reconciliation between God and man. (Colossians 1:19-22)
-
In 1 John 1:7 it
speaks about the blood of Jesus that "cleanses us from all sin."
This is the good news of Jesus Christ. His shed blood cleanses all sins! There is no sin too big that the blood of Jesus cannot atone
for.
-
In 1 John 1:8 it
says, "we are deceiving ourselves." There is no one who is without sin. All mankind has fallen short to
the glory of God and it is only through the free gift of eternal life that
anyone can be saved. (Romans 3:21-31)
-
In 1 John 1:9 it
says, "If we confess our sins." This is the decision of
eternity. We must confess our sins and acknowledge the Lord Jesus
Christ. Paul said, "9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as
Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will
be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in
righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. 11
For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED."
12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is
Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; 13 for "WHOEVER
WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.""
-
In 1 John 1:9 it
says, "to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness." We are set free from all of our sins and
unrighteousness when we come to know the Lord Jesus Christ personally.
God's love is for anyone who will reach out and seek His forgiveness.
-
In 1 John 1:10
it says, "If we say that we have not sinned." There are many
proud people today who think they are in no need of being saved. God
has given mankind a choice. We either accept His Divine revelation and
be set free, or we reject Him staying deceived and dying in our sins.
The epistle of 1 John is informative on knowing Jesus and receiving eternal
life. In 1 John 5 we read the following: "10 The one who
believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who
does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in
the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. 11 And the testimony is
this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He
who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of
God does not have the life. 13 These things I have written to you who
believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have
eternal life...20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and
has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and
we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is
the true God and eternal life." There are 4 main points from
these Scriptures I want to point out.
-
There is a
contrast of "one who believes in the Son of God" and the "one who
does not believe." (1 John 5:10)
-
If you have the
Son you have (Eternal) life. If you do not have the Son you do not
have (Eternal) life. (1 John 5:12)
-
John wrote his
epistle for the purpose of letting those who trust in Jesus know that they
have eternal life. (1 John 5:13)
-
John states that
the Son of God has come. John states the Son of God is true.
John states that we (Those in Christ) are in Him (Jesus) who is true.
John connects "Him who is true" and "this is the true God and
eternal life" as being Jesus Christ. (1 John 5:20)
The epistle of 1 John is a wonderful book that gives encouragement,
guidance, and assurance. If you are struggling with accepting Jesus or
other issues please let us know how we can help. If you are want
