Greetings from AFC and welcome to another Friday Night Apologetics (FNA) weekly live Bible study discussion!  This weeks discussion is a continuation of our Arminianism series (part 3) where we are examining the doctrinal teaching of those who teach Christians can lose their salvation.  In fact this is a special study in which we are going through an audio teaching called "Are you sure they were never saved?" by Dan Corner of Evangelical Outreach ministry.  Dan Corner is a huge opponent to those who believe in "Eternal Security", "Once Saved Always Saved", "Assurance of Salvation" in Christ.  At Evangelical Outreach ministry there is tons of information supposedly exposing this doctrine as being the biggest lie of Satan.  Wow, what a charge that is!  Since we are currently going through the theme of Arminianism it is only beneficial to examine the charges out there from those who teach so strongly against Eternal Security.

There will be two studies going through Dan Corner sermon at his church called "Are you sure they were saved?" in which he is using Matthew 7:20-29 to teach that Christians can lose their salvation.  But does Matthew 7:20-29 really teach that Christians can lose their salvation or does it affirm that Christians cannot lose their salvation, thus proving the doctrine of Eternal Security?

If you have any questions or comments please let us know.  Please check out our blog where you can publicly share your comments.  www.afcministry.blogspot.com

Eternal Security is surely Satan's masterpiece. This doctrine that claims that one can be "in Christ," while willingly dead in "trespasses and sins, " is pure heresy. The doctrine is rooted in unbelief, seeing that they deny that Christ has any power to deliver the believer here and now. The Bible tells us that Jesus came to destroy the work of the devil, and that Jesus came to save His people from their sins, not in their sins. A Savior who cannot live up to his promises to deliver us from our sins in this life cannot be depended upon to deliver us after our death! I am uncomfortably confident that at the consummation of time, it will be revealed that this sole doctrine alone will have populated the regions of hell far more than all other false teachings put together. Those that teach this heresy have exchanged light for darkness, truth for lies, and called it the Gospel!     - Jeff Paton  http://www.eternalsecurity.us/

There never was or ever can be" a born Securist. "You reader, or any other truly born again Christian, cannot read Eternal Security verses and get Eternal Security "out of " them. The only way that Eternal Security can be attached to these verses is to "read it into" them. This proves that Eternal Security is an extra-Biblical, external philosophy, seeking Biblical sanction. People are "educated into" Eternal Security, just as truly as atheists are "educated into" atheism.      - Henry Schilling  (quote from  www.eternalsecurity.us )

(graphic of the devil speaking) My teaching of Eternal Security also known as Once Saved Always Saved or the Perseverance of the Saints, is the best lie I’ve ever devised against the righteous.  Chances are, if you are like most, I will deceive and recapture you to.  Ha Ha Ha Ha (www.evangelicaloutreach.org site Dan Corner)

  • Below will be some of the notes (notes in black are observations from what Dan Corner said and notes in green are additional comments and questions for the study) from our live online study that we did in Paltalk.  This audio examination concerning Dan Corner was not edited in anyway.  This examination was played from the beginning up to 20 minutes with no skipping or changing in anyway.  Our second examination will cover the rest of it.

Fruit? What fruit declares that they are not Christians?

Fruit is the context of Matthew 7:13-27

Fruit trees are known by what?

The point of what Jesus was teaching is who are we founded upon?  Who is our foundation?  The fruit represents their foundation, their root.  Therefore who they are, what they teach, what they claim all represents their foundation.  If their foundation is false or in fruit terms rotten, then they are by Biblical definition not a Christian.

Many people will call Jesus Lord – Christians and non-Christians

Matthew 7:21 Why don’t people enter the kingdom?  Only those who do the will of the Father

What is the will of the Father in these Scriptures? (24-27 built upon the Rock not self!)

What does the Bible teach about “the will of the Father or God?” It always depends upon the context!

John 6:40 the will of the Father – looks and believes in Him will have eternal life – continuous

Some will believe for a time but fall away?

It is interesting he goes here since this helps disprove his theology!

What does the context of John 6:35-40 teach about the will of the Father? This passage says those who behold and believe in the Son will have eternal life.  Unless Dan wants to add to these passages something that is not there they clearly contradict his theology!

John 5:29?  Teaches against eternal security? How so?

What does Rev. 22:12-13 & John 5:22 teach?  Christians will be judged yes, but their judgment is not for their eternal life as unbelievers but concerning what they have done with their life as Christians.  This is a huge differenc.

Romans 2:7 persistent in doing good to keep eternal life?

Any thoughts on ‘Dan the fear factor man’ comments here and Romans 2:7?

James 2:14 no good deeds no eternal life? Faith no accompanied by action is dead!

Some of you know this but James 2 is addressing a said faith vs. a genuine faith (1-26 context)

Why do so many confuse this as works for salvation? The context of James 2 is addressing those who were showing favoritism towards the rich and despising the poor.  The heart of what James is getting at is those who truly are of the faith will reflect Christ-like character.  This in no way is teaching works for salvation.  Check out Genesis 15:6 and Romans 4:1-5 which clearly proves otherwise.

1 Thess. 1:3 our work is produced by faith

and the point is? Genuine believers produce, some more than others.  Living for Jesus does take work, to live for the cause!

Romans 1:5 true faith will have obedience with it –

Jehovah's Witnesses don't trust in Jesus solely for salvation but in the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society organization for it.  It is funny how Dan and those like him will say they trust in Jesus but if you sin and don’t repent you can lose your salvation.  The way to keep your salvation is based upon fear of doing good works and not sinning, but this is not Biblical at all.

Matthew 7:22-23 many religious people do these things and are on their way to hell.  These things are not fruit.  Key Verse 23 said they were evil doers!

Their fruit is rotten because they don’t truly reflect their foundation, their roots, and are built upon something or someone else.

Again whom to Mormons place their trust?  JWs?  Roman Catholicism? (notice I said Roman Catholicism and not all Roman Catholics?) What about Muslims?

Why is what Jesus said in Matthew 7:24-27 so important to understand concerning what Jesus said previously?

John 10:14 says Jesus knows His sheep in comparison to Matthew 7:23 I never knew you, never been His sheep…

Amazing he says this.  This shows clearly those whom are of Christ are secure because Jesus will never say to them, I never knew you.  The very thing Dan states to prove actually disproves him!

…if He would of said “I don’t know you” then that would be just not at that time. As in Matthew 25:12 don’t know you now? Dan says this means something different than what Jesus said in Matthew 7:23

Actually the meaning is “you are not related to Me”. The fact is Jesus did not know them, and all those whom Jesus knows He knows period! Again showing Dan is wrong.

Why is it important to understand that those whom God knows are known always?  John 10:28-29!

Deut. 13:1-3 true prophet? Exodus 7 occultists can do miracles!

Acts 19:13 Jews driving out evil spirits – Jesus I know, I know Paul, but who are you? Scriptures teach some religious people do supernatural things.  Amazing.

Agreed, amazing.  Simply put there are out there today who will claim such and such, some who even claim they know Jesus, but the fact is, Jesus never knew them, thus showing they never lost their salvation simply because they never had it to lose.

Some believe Matthew 7:21-23 is about occultists.

Matthew 7:23 evil doers – worked iniquity.

Not the fruit.  What is that fruit?  Next week LOL

We will address further the misconceptions of Dan Corner in our next study.  Please visit our www.afcministry.blogspot.com to share questions and comments.
