Our Testimony

Well it all started on May 12, 1999 in a small town in central Canada. Theresa was working overtime and took a break and was "surfing" the internet when she came across a site called "Christians Online". One of the features of this site was pen pals. Theresa had a pen pal when she was in high school through regular mail, this website used e-mail. She thought she would check it out to see what it was all about. When she looked at the list of names and descriptions there was one that caught her attention. She liked his testimony so she e-mailed him to see if he wanted to become pen pals. His name was Kelly Powers and he lived in Las Vegas. His main focus was on God, studying the Bible, witnessing and apologetics.

Theresa had always been interested in cults so she thought maybe she could learn something from him.  When Kelly got the e-mail, he had already been getting many e-mails from girls at this site. But he figured he would e-mail her back and see what would happen. At the time he e-mailed Theresa, he was corresponding with another girl from London, England and she had given him her phone number so that he could call her. Well he had been trying to get through to her but it just didn't work. She didn't know why because she had other people from the US call her and it worked fine. After that, they seemed to lose contact and stopped corresponding. God was 'blocking' the phone lines because He had someone else in mind for Kelly.

During this time Kelly and Theresa were really hitting it off. They were e-mailing each other everyday. After about a month, Kelly asked Theresa if he could call her or if she wanted to call him. Well, Theresa was taken off guard and said that she wasn't sure. Well that evening she couldn't wait any longer so she called him. Unfortunately she got his answering machine so she left her number for him to call her. He called back the next day, on June 25, 1999. They talked for about 5 hours!!! It was like they had known each other for years! After that first phone call, they could not go a day without calling each other. They did cut the phone calls down to 1-2 hours to save money.

With each day that went by, their relationship got closer and closer. They both realized that God had a purpose for their lives and that He brought them together. They knew that they would be together one day, married, spending the rest of their lives together with God as their center.

The first time Theresa and Kelly met in person was in November, 1999, seven months after their first e-mail. Kelly flew to Canada to meet Theresa and her family. He stayed for a week, and that week was jam packed full with activities. They were both a little nervous at first (Theresa more than Kelly), but eventually they both got more comfortable with each other. By the end of the week they didn't want to be apart from each other. They knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt that they would be married soon.

Theresa's family really liked Kelly, he made a really good impression. After he left for home, Theresa told her family and Kelly told his family that they were going to be married. On January 2, 2000, Theresa flew to Las Vegas for two weeks to spend some time with Kelly and meet his family. After a lot of prayer and discussion, they decided that it would be best if Theresa would move to Las Vegas. When Theresa went home, she told everyone the news. They took it well, but were shocked and sad at the same time. Theresa had two months to get packed and ready for the big move. On March 19, 2000, she moved to her new home and on August 11, 2000, Kelly and Theresa were married.

God had worked the whole thing out.  They knew that everything happened for a reason.  There were a lot of rocky roads along the way and some tough times, but Kelly and Theresa stuck together knowing that their life was going to be full of love and adventure with God as their center!!!!
